The JROTC program was originally created as part of the National Defense Act of 1916 and later expanded under the 1964 ROTC Vitalization Act. Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) is a Federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in high schools across the United States. The purpose of Junior ROTC is to teach values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment to the students of the United States secondary educational institutions.
Cadet Colonel Toler has been assigned as Group Commander of Bob Jones High School JROTC program. This cadet, now a senior, is currently in her fifth course of taking JROTC. She joined ROTC in her sophomore year, wanting to learn as much as possible about the military and wishing to better herself through leadership training and activities. During her tenure in JROTC, she has learned many different people skills, such as how to work with others and to respect her elders and fellow classmates. Some of the Junior ROTC-provided activity teams she has participated in are Drill Team, Honor Guard, Awareness Presentation Team (APT), and Orienteering Team.
Her past jobs include Charlie TEC., Charlie Flight Commander, White Squadron Commander, and Command Chief. While serving as new Group Commander, Cadet Colonel Toler says that one of her major accomplishments is seeing teams effectively communicating and working together. She goes on to state that her future plans are to attend the University of South Alabama, majoring in Education and minoring in Communications. While attending the University of South Alabama, Cadet Colonel Toler plans to join the Army ROTC Unit, with further aspirations of enlisting in the Armed Forces as an Officer.
As New Group Commander, she is entering into the year with a “Gotta Wanna” attitude, which is the Air Force JROTC motto at the Bob Jones High School.
Lieutenant Colonel Herd had this to say of Toler: “Cadet Colonel Toler has been an outstanding contributor and a vital part of our program over the past couple of years.I am sure she will do a terrific job as a commander.” Of course, much thanks is given to Lieutenant Colonel Herd and Chief Master Sergeant Clark for their leadership and help in getting her to where she is today.
