Students from Australia spent the afternoon at Bob Jones on Friday. Bob Jones students escorted the guests around the school, visiting classrooms and touring facilities. I caught up with these fun-accented foreigners, and asked sophomore Luke some questions.
What is the biggest difference between Australia and the U.S.?
Hearing a different accent all the time.
Was it weird adjusting to the different seasons?
Well, it’s Spring at home right now, so yes. It’s more like our summer here.
How is Bob Jones different from your school?
It’s a lot bigger, and we get to eat outside instead of in a lunch room.
What’s your favorite thing about being in the U.S.?
The food! The portions here are a lot bigger.
Does your school have its own publication?
I guess it does… but no one really reads it.
What sports are popular in Australia?
AFL–the Australian Football League. The actual ball is similar to an American football, but the sport itself is completely different. Also, cricket is really popular, and basketball and soccer, I guess.
Do people ask you to talk a lot so they an hear your accent?
Haha, yes.
