We young adults face tremendous challenges on a day to day basis: the workload of our studies, the desire to fit in with peers at school, and family troubles. In the midst of our personal battles, we are given an opportunity to regain and sustain hope for ourselves and one another. We can gather as one body to surrender our burdens through prayer and devotion with fellow peers not only within our community, but also across the nation.
On Wednesday, September 25, 2013, Bob Jones High School will be participating in See You at the Pole (SYATP) under the direction of Mrs. Amy Thaxton. Thousands of other high schools will participate in the event as well. This special time will allow students of every background, race, and religion to join with each other to pray for those around them, loved ones, schools, leaders, and communities. The gathering will begin precisely at 7:15 a.m. in the front of the Bob Jones High School flagpole.
See You at the Pole is an annual event during which high school students across the nation gather around the flagpoles of their schools to pray for other students, their schools, families, and nation, asking God to set forth both moral and spiritual revival. The gathering is always held on the fourth Wednesday of September and is initiated and organized by students. The start of this humbling and moving assembly began in the little town of Burleson, Texas with just a handful of students who joined together for a DiscipleNow weekend in early 1990. As they assembled around the school flagpole, they prayed for their friends, schools, leaders, and their community.
Little did they know that God was preparing to use their obedience to change the hearts of countless teenagers just like them.
This united prayer has had a major impact on high school students across America.
Since 1991, SYATP has continued to grow. What began as a simple, heartfelt ritual among about ten students has come to inspire millions of young adults.
