You’re sitting in the parking lot, jamming out to your music, and a turquoise truck pulls in the space in front of you. Two guys get out, obviously brothers, and a girl gets out of the neighboring car. The younger brother proceeds to take off his shirt to show the question, “Homecoming?” written on his back. He proceeds to play the saxophone. The older brother takes the girl’s hands in his, and she can’t stop laughing.
This is what Brigham Parker did to ask Ashley Peel to homecoming last year.
Every girl’s dream, whether she admits it or not, is for a boy to ask her to a dance creatively. In reality, that just doesn’t happen, so the girl takes it upon herself to find a date.
A former Bob Jones student, Alexandria Zitting, formerly Alexandria Stratton, asked her date to the dance with bottle caps. On each cap, she wrote a letter on one side and a number on the other side. When her date to be arranged the bottle caps in numerical order, they spelled the big question: “Homecoming?”
Emily Rose Lawson asked her date to the dance with a fish bowl full of Goldfish crackers and a note that read, “Of all the fish in the sea, I’m glad you chose to swim with me. Will you go to homecoming with me?”
Sites like http://www.wikihow.com/ and Pinterest provide ideas for asking potential dates to homecoming. One idea Wikihow suggests is writing a note and placing it strategically in the potential date’s locker.
Pinterest provides ideas that are just as diverse. It suggests everything from creating a poster board to approaching the date while riding a horse. Quite a few of these ideas are not really pragmatic. However, their are many practical methods for asking a person to the dance. Generally, food and Disney make girls feel special. The same goes for the guys.
But do not despair if being creative is not your thing. Simply asking your person of interest is completely acceptable. He or she is not going to haunt you if you don’t pull up in a carriage wearing a crown. And as Stephanie Lepper beautifully put it, “Ladies, don’t be upset just because that dream guy doesn’t ask you in a super cute way. Some people don’t get asked at all. And guys, don’t be discouraged if she says ‘no.’ Just move on and ask another lucky girl.”
How will you ask him or her to homecoming?
