Class Senate is a volunteer organization for each grade level. It is a part of the SGA, Student Government Association. Senate members help the Executive Board in the decision-making, organization and the set up of class activities.
Every great organization needs teamwork and volunteers, and the Senates are filled with committed members that love helping out when the workload gets too much. Mugdha Mokashi explained, “Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are any of the amazing events Bob Jones puts on.”
Members of Class Senate help with a lot of fun class activities during the school year, such as homecoming, prom, and other activities. The members are also responsible for clean up after each class activity. Senate members also help with designing the class t-shirt. One of the Executive Board members states, “The class t-shirt designs are really creative and really cute, but it is still a secret for now.”
There are four groups of Class Senate, one per grade level. Each group of senate members has one sponsor. The sponsor for Senior Senate is Mrs. Brandy Van Dam, Junior Senate sponsor is Mrs. Zoe Williams, Sophomore Senate sponsor is Mrs. Jennifer Flanagan, formerly Mrs. Voorhies, and the Freshman Senate sponsor is Mr. Richard Travers.
The Senior Senate helps decorate for homecoming, and the Junior Senate is in charge of the prom. “I’m really looking forward to working with the Senate on homecoming, it’s my favorite event of the year,” Mrs. Van Dam said. Class Senate will have hall decoration during homecoming week to show school spirit. Other Senates help plan their own class floats. “Being a member of the SGA is an incredibly rewarding experience. There is nothing like the feeling of hearing the “oohs” and “ahhs” as people walk into prom and homecoming, and it is a great experience decorating the school and the float for Homecoming,” Mugdha states.
Class Senate will give a good experience of working behind the class activities. Class Senate application was available to pick up at the beginning of the school year, but if anyone is still interested in joining a Class Senate, please talk to the Mrs. Van Dam in room B120 for more opportunities.
