Bob Jones High School and James Clemens High School are competing to see which school can have more participants in the Run to Kure Infant Disorders (R-KIDs) event. Mr. Parker, our principal, wants Bob Jones to have as many participants as possible to support the worthy cause that R-KIDs supports.
The R-KIDs 5K and 1-mile fun run/walk on November 23rd at the Madison City Schools Stadium is a benefit event that gives all proceeds to the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. HudsonAlpha is conducting research to identify the genetic cause of childhood disorders using new technologies to study DNA. The research hopes to explain why some children have problems with the development of their brain and body. You can help.
Every participant of the event will receive a free R-KIDs t-shirt and free Domino’s pizza. To sign up, visit www.rkid.org. On the website, you can also start a 5K or 1-mile team to participate in the event with friends.
Carter Wells, the Vice President for Economic Development at HudsonAlpha, is excited about the Run to Kure Infant Disorders. R-KIDs will “help support HudsonAlpha’s research to identify the genetic cause of childhood disorders using new technologies to study DNA. The majority of the families who participate in this study live in North Alabama. The discoveries made will have a direct impact on the lives of people in our community and may benefit families around the globe,” Carter Wells said.
Peyton Tyler, a junior at Bob Jones, plans to participate in the 1-mile run/walk. “I think that events like this are important. I like this cause, so I’m going to walk in the event to support it.”
Peyton is right. R-KIDs is furthering a great cause, and everybody should participate to support it.
