What would you say if I told you that you could have the opportunity to spend 9 days exploring a whole new land? Well, this summer, students from Bob Jones and UAH get a chance to explore the exotic ‘Rich Coast’ of Costa Rica.
Participating students will be able to experience the Tico culture of Costa Rica by participating in community service projects with peers, attending a local high school in the country, and traveling to rain forests and national parks.
“I’m always interested in learning about cultures. . .different from my own. I would like to do something like that someday, if I can ever get over my fear of flying. Reading about cultures is fine, but you’ll never fully understand it until you’ve witnessed it with your own two eyes,” said Tristan Hill, a senior at Bob Jones.
Costa Rica is located between Panama and Nicaragua in South America. The native Costa Ricans are called Ticos, and the majority of the Costa Rican population speaks fluent Spanish. Mrs. Hope Davis encourages students that take a Spanish language course to take this chance to explore the culture and familiarize themselves with speaking Spanish in real life.
Mrs. Davis and UAH contacts will chaperone the trip. They have set up an informational meeting on November 14th at 6:00 pm in Mrs. Davis’ room, B214. The meeting will explain everything you need to know about the trip, from activities the group will do to pricing.
So, why not? Even if you’re not obsessed with Spanish, going on such a fun trip will definitely be exciting.
