Tuesday, December the 11th, Bob Jones held it’s annual winter art show! From portraits to sculptures and the always-impressive advanced art showcases, this year’s show did not disappoint.
Like every art viewing in the past, all of the works—big and small—were mounted in the school’s auditorium area, each receiving their “15 minutes of fame.” Personally, seeing my own work hung up on a big scale made me feel special as well.
As stated previously, the senior showcase was a grand span of a variety of pieces. For months, the many seniors taking advanced art have been preparing for this season’s art show. Samantha Butler, a student featured in the showcase, has said, “It’s pretty cool to see my work presented in a gallery setting! It’s also very inspiring to see other works created by the other students.” Among the featured students was Diesha Summerhill, a senior at Bob Jones, who has mastered the art of chalk pastel and mixed media. Another student, Ernesto Rodriguez, specializes in pen-work involving heavy pointillism.
A parent who visited this year’s art show has stated,” I’m surprised to see the amount of talent displayed here! I’ve always known that the art program here was fabulous, but here’s the proof!” Many other parents shared the same experiences. My own mother, when confronted with the pictures from the art show, was shocked that kids at a high school level could “create such beautiful art”.
Jennifer Norton, one of Bob Jones’ art teachers has commented,” I’m really proud of the work and work ethic displayed this year– like last year and the many years before that, the work was spectacular.”
In short, Bob Jones high school’s art program offered a jubilation of fine arts. Many people gathered to appreciate the great work of students as well as the livelihood of their beautiful work. Like always, the Bob Jones art students really gave it their all.
