Have you seen Batman or the Joker running around the school lately? Do you want to do something nice for others this holiday season? Well here’s your chance! The peer helpers are doing a charity event called the Cereal Drive! Students can give cereal to the peer helpers and it will be distributed this season to families in need this holiday season.
This charity event is happening now until December 18th. The cereal will be distributed by In and Out Ministries this holiday season. Students and faculty members alike can give boxes of cereal to their 3rd block teachers or give them to Mrs. Drummond in Room C117.
The peer helpers dressed up as Batman and the Joker last Tuesday in order to bring attention to the the charity (since the Joker is a “cereal killer”). They staged a fight scene in the cafeteria and encouraged the audience to bring cereal for those less fortunate.
You might ask “Why cereal?” The Peer Helper sponsor, Mrs. Drummond, says that “cereal has a long shelf life and it can be eaten alone or with milk and it comes in abundance. We have already seen how this drive helps people because families in need have already come up to collect cereal for their families. We really need the student body to help out and give any extra cereal boxes they have even if they are small, any contribution to the charity could feed a hungry family.”
Shelby Morgan, a senior who played the Joker during first and fourth block lunches, says, “We did this for those who are less fortunate than us. We hope this will educate and inspire our classmates to give food and help others.”
The cereal drive ends the 18th. Please help those in need and give food to the less fortunate this holiday season.
