Ciphering Time Trials: the test of a true champion. In a world ruled by destruction and chaos, only the best of the best can stand the test of time (trials).
These kings, these geniuses, these gods among mortals gallantly arose to the challenge to defend the honor of Bob Jones, and all of her people. Armed with nothing but their wits and a passion for math that would shake any sane man to insanity, these heroes deserve nothing but the highest honor.
The Ciphering Time Trials is a national mathematics contest run by National Assessment & Testing, a company that has five different math contests for students to participate in. The Ciphering Time Trials contain ten rounds. In each round each student is given three math problems with three minutes to solve them.
Students from Bob Jones High School participated in the 2013 Ciphering Time Trials on Thursday, December 12th, 2013.
Bob Jones placed 9th overall nationally, with all 7 competing students placing in the top 25 nationally in their grade level. Of the juniors, Tina Tian placed 17th and Victoria Van placed 20th. Of the sophomores, Kevin Duan placed 12th. Of the freshmen, Joey Li placed 2nd, Winston Van placed 15th, and Amelia Goldston and Anthony Zhu tied for 20th.
With this recent placement Bob Jones has been able to place 12 places higher than last year. In 2012 Bob Jones placed 21st. This is not the first year Bob Jones students individually have placed with Victoria Van placing 21st last year in the 10th grade division.
“Making it into the top ten is something to be proud of,” said team coach Mrs. Cox. “It’s incredibly important to challenge and enrich gifted students, and it is a good representation of Bob Jones.”
This win shows to the world that the Bob Jones Ciphering Squad are the true champions of the Math Realm.
