Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! What better way to prepare for this romantic holiday than improving your French? After all, it is known as the language of love.
On Monday, February 03, 2014, the French Club woke up bright and early in order to begin their journey to the University of Alabama where they attended Alabama’s annual French Convention. They were joined by French students from all over the state to compete in various events that tested their French knowledge. These events include extemporaneous speaking, dictée (a listening test), skits and many more.
“We won a total of twenty-eight awards, and that is fantastique!” said French teacher, Madame Mooney.
All of the students did an excellent job at this year’s French convention. Many of them received a rating of either très bien (very good) or supérieur (superior) which is definitely something to be proud of!
Since this year’s theme was la langue de l’amour, or the language of love, eleven Bob Jones French students performed a play titled La folie d’amour. This play was about a game show where couples were quizzed on how well they knew each other. The play was very entertaining, there was never a dull moment. This performance received a très bien.
“I’m just glad we remembered most of our lines,” said Hanna Hammons.
“I’m especially proud of how well the students did in the brand new events,” said Madame Mooney.
This year the Alabama French convention had more events than ever before! These new events include extemporaneous speaking, the history/geography test, listening test, and grammar test.
“These events were very intimidating because the students didn’t know what to expect,” said Madame Mooney.
Troy Koler, Sabrina Chen, and Patrick Perkins competed in the extemporaneous speaking event and scored a supérieur. This event was completely improve and truly put their French communication skills to the test.
“My favorite event that I participated in was extemporaneous speaking because we made the judges laugh,” said Troy Koler.
The “French Squad” definitely represented Bob Jones High School well at this year’s Alabama French convention. It’s not everyday that one club wins twenty-eight awards. Très bien Bob Jones French Club!
