The Ghost that Walk Our Streets
October 14, 2016
The Huntsville Ghost Walks begin at 6 p.m. at Harrison Brothers Hardware Store on Southside Square in Downtown Huntsville. You have the choice between 3 different tours: Twickenham Historic District, Old Town Historic District, and the Haunted Downtown District. Another option is the Haunted Trolley running on Saturday nights in August, September, and October.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids for the walk. Trolley tickets are $12 for adults or $10 for kids 12 and under.
All walks are about two hours long, and they recommend getting there early for parking and ticket purchasing. They also recommend buying your trolley tickets in advance due to there only being 28 seats available.
Old Town Historic District
This was the first established Ghost Walk. It consist of stories such as “The Fraternity House for Ghosts,” “the Children of Walker Street,” “The Ghost in the Courthouse,” and “The killing of Judge Thomas Lawler.” These historical structures are mostly Victorian-style (late 1800s).
Twickenham Historic District
On the second Ghost Walk, you take a walk through the streets with the Antebellum-style mansions (pre-1860s). On this tour they talk about LeRoy “Father of Huntsville” Pope, Helion Lodge #1, the Backwards House, and many others.
Haunted Downtown
Lastly, Haunted Downtown includes the businesses in downtown Huntsville as well as Big Spring Park. They talk about the Marble Palace, Confederate soldiers, the Halsey Grocery Store, and the oldest spirits you will encounter on the trips: the American Indians. (This is the only tour that has stairs.)

Bailey Anderson, a current senior at Bob Jones, attended the Huntsville Ghost Walk in Downtown. “The experience was great and creepy at the same time. I loved learning about history while getting told spooky ghost stories. I will definitely be coming back!” she explained.
This is the perfect time of year to set aside some time for an evening ghost walk.
