Gifting Guatemala
December 13, 2016
Throughout the year Bob Jones makes sure to give back. We have already had multiple canned good drives and we even joined forces with JC to collect PB&J for Inside-Out Ministries. The giving hasn’t stopped this Holiday Season. The Spanish department in partnership with the “Friends of the Children” organization collected 225 shoe boxes to be distributed out through the Salvation Army for the less fortunate children of Guatemala.
Each box is filled with hygiene items, toys, books and school supplies. Included in every box is a list of items included and a letter to the children (written in Spanish obviously).
When asked what the students gain from the experience, Mrs. Clough (a National Board Certified Teacher) said they learn new vocabulary words and practice formatting and writing letters in addition to that feeling you get from helping children in need during the holidays.
With 15 years of success, the shoe box collection is a bit of holiday tradition for the Spanish department. While it is too late to participate this year, you can always get involved next year.
