How to Have a Fun Weekend

Sarah Lovelady and Laurel Hannah

Woohoo! There’s a long weekend ahead of us!

A long weekend is good for both students and teachers, so we can have a nice relaxing time to get away from school and be with our families.

The only problem is figuring out how we are going to spend our weekends. A student’s free time is very valuable so we want to help make sure you are spending it in smart, fun, and productive ways. So we’ve interviewed a bunch of our peers to get the inside scoop of what we actually do with our free time.

Sophomore Kafui Sakyi-Addo said, “I’ll probably be spending my weekend binge-watching Sherlock.”

As much fun as watching TV, scrolling through social media, or watching funny videos can be, technology is often overused in today’s society. More people are spending time on their phones than enjoying the world around them. Cutting back on our technology time can help us spend more quality time with our friends and family.

Sophomore Brook Heater said, “I am going to be sleeping.”

Sleep is one of the rare things in the life of a teen on schooldays-from doing homework to playing on phones, so sleeping on weekends makes sense.

Nationwide Children says, “Teens need about 9-9 ½ hours of sleep.”

I would love to get at least to get 9 hours of sleep. Wouldn’t you?

On the other hand you don’t want to sleep the whole day away, so getting outside and doing something can help make sure you spent you time wisely.

Overall, most teens spend their weekends chilling at home. Although spending time at home is fun, it isn’t really fulfilling.

Thankfully here are lots of things you can do locally here in Madison, from hiking on rainbow mountain, to visiting the library, or even shopping at bridge street.

If you’re one of those adventurous teens and you want to get out of the house, then here are some other ideas of what you can do! In Madison, you might think, “There’s nothing to do here,” but there’s really plenty of things to do here, you just have to be creative and open to trying new things.

One thing that you can do locally is go to the Insanity Complex. It has a wide range of things to do, including roller skating, arcade games, rock wall climbing, putt-putt, and of course the main reason Insanity was created, skateboarding.

You can enjoy seeing a movie with your friends and family. There are plenty of theaters in Madison and Huntsville that are fun, new, and comfortable.

Finally, something you can never go wrong with, FOOD! Going out to lunch or dinner is a fun way to enjoy yourself and connect with your families and friends. There are a variety of different restaurants in Madison that have amazing food that you and your family can enjoy.

Basically, there are many things to do in Madison, so get off your phone and enjoy your city!
