March 31, 2018
Chess is a board game played on an 8×8 checkerboard. Each piece has its own movement style and the main goal is to outwit the opponent. The first games of chess was invented in 6th century India, and it eventually made its way through Asia. Now, in the 21st century, the Bob Jones High School chess team won the 2018 MCCL cup.
The MCCL competition is all the Madison chess teams from middle and high school levels, and this is the first year Bob Jones won the cup. Mr. Mack, a school sponsor, said, “The team is very student-led, and I think that they can hold onto the cup in 2019.”
Remember to ask Mr. Mack if you’re interested in joining. If you want to play recreational chess, you can play on Monday at Madison Library from 6:30-8:00 pm.
