Treats for the Spooky Season

Samantha Robbins and Gina Lanyi

Around Halloween, lots of candy is being bought for the special night. The classics like Snickers, Twix, Candy Corn, Skittles, and other various types of candy bars are handed out to children. Some brands are even coming out with candy that is specifically themed for the Halloween season. For example, Hershey’s has come out with their classic kisses, except it is filled with a strawberry creme and labeled vampire kisses.

When you first think of Halloween, the first thing you may think of is candy, but that is not all it has to offer. Here are some delicious recipes for parties, events, or just to snack on.

If you love marshmallows and chocolate, these fun Marshmallow Heads are for you. They are a marshmallow that has been dipped in chocolate and decorated with things like Frankenstein, pumpkins, and Dracula. They are perfect for younger kids who want a fun and interactive snack.  https://www.womansday.com/food-recipes/food-drinks/recipes/a11873/marshmallow-heads-recipe-123439/

Another treat that is good to have for the Halloween season is decorative cookies. Some brands sell cookies that already have patterns and shapes that represent ghosts or pumpkins. You could also make it a fun activity by having plain cookies and decorating them with some frosting. These would be fun for kids at a party or just to entertain them for a while. https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/halloween-party-cutout-cookies/

If you would rather have something that is more on the savory side, Mummy Fingers are for you! They are some sort of meat like chicken or hotdogs that are wrapped in a buttery puffed pastry. They are great finger foods to snack on or could even be eaten at a meal along with some sort of veggie or fruit tray.  https://www.confettiandbliss.com/mummy-hot-dogs/

If you like fun and unique dips, the S’mores dip is something you might enjoy. All you need is the classic s’mores ingredients: chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers. All you do is layer chocolate and then marshmallow in an oven safe pan and then place into the oven until the top of the marshmallows are golden brown and crispy. You then can dip a whole graham cracker into the gooey, delicious s’mores dip. https://www.ifyougiveablondeakitchen.com/how-to-make-smores-dip/

We hope that if you try any of these recipes, you enjoyed them and had fun while making them.
