National Hobby Month is dedicated to acknowledging and bringing people’s popular or even unique hobbies to the public’s attention. Sometimes we get way too busy with things such as work and school. As a result, it’s very important to take a break and just relax and use your time to do something you find fun.
Since I started working, I can count the number of times I’ve enjoyed my hobby on my fingers. Thankfully, we recently had an extra long weekend, and I was able to play some games.
Taking some time out of the day to do what you enjoy even for 30 minutes to an hour can give you that mental reset you may have needed. You could even argue that this “mental reset” can” help you perform better at work or improve on your studies. According to blog.mercy.com, “Hobbies that promote physical health can help you in many ways. Activities such as running, taking a walk, playing sports or attending a workout class have numerous health benefits and generally improve your mental health and well-being. Research shows that having an active hobby can improve your blood pressure, reduce stress and help you sleep better. Additionally, exercise boosts serotonin levels, a ‘feel-good chemical’ that helps you feel happy and more calm.”
Even other hobbies like painting or singing can help reduce stress because those are things that you are passionate about and when you get the opportunity to do those things, you get this sense of freedom that we all enjoy.
