January is the month of resolutions. Many people start the year with ambitious goals and the notion that “this year will be the year!” Then, as the end of the year approaches, we say, “Next year will be the year!” This is a cycle that people hope to break out of, but many don’t know how!
Organizing your goals and ambitions into a vision board can be an effective way to help you stay motivated to complete your New Year’s resolutions! A vision board can be for just one year, two years, or even ten! Using a vision board, you can plan your future as little or as much as you want, which can help your goals feel less overwhelming.
A vision board could be a creative endeavor, using images and art supplies to help visualize your goals. It could also simply be a list you keep or what you want to complete in a certain time period. You could also make a vision board digitally using Google Slides or Canva.
Some goals you could put on your vision board could be relationships, saving money (or spending), pets, travel, health/exercise, lifestyle, fashion, and that’s only a few!
Keeping your vision board in an easy-to-see spot will help you stay motivated. Seeing your goals planned out constantly can help keep them in your mind and help you accomplish them.
While a vision board might not be for everyone, for some, it can be a really effective way to plan how they want their future to look. Rena Kerndl, a senior, said, “It helped me specify exactly what I wanted/needed to do to achieve my goal. Before the vision board, the project[s] I would have in mind would be merely a jumble of ideas, but vision boards help me express the different paths I can take in deciding what to do and help me choose which one to follow.”
If you’ve ever felt like you can never accomplish your goals because they feel too daunting or time just gets away from you, maybe try a vision board this year and see how it goes!
