The Construction Academy students of Bob Jones have been hard at work getting the deck next to the tennis court fixed up. The steps on the side have been finished and have been a great help for those at work. They provided a great access point for the students to use.
The old deck had a roughly made design under the actual deck boards, and this led to a quicker deterioration of the deck as the old designer had not accounted for the sinking of the deck into the ground. Although this deck had been sort of an eyesore for the Academy for a while, it had served its purpose throughout its years but had become an overly worrying hazard to the students who use it daily. These would have resulted in harm towards a student or more, so unfortunately it had to go from the campus. The soon-to-be-completed first part of the deck is already looking great compared to the old and rotten walking space we had before.
Another addition to our school’s new makeover is a fresh coat of paint on many of the areas outside, including curbs and crosswalks. There may be some restricted areas outside due to the repainting of the crosswalks, but this should be very temporary as the latex paint the Academy uses is perfect for outside use. The painting of the curbs should prove useful in a case of emergency such as a fire, as the old paint had faded so much that it was almost unnoticeable. This should make it sure that no one is in the way of any firemen at work.
Overall, these newly painted curbs and crosswalks along with the new deck, will provide a great and fresh new look for our school as well as more practical uses for students. The rest of the deck should be fixed up in the coming weeks, as this is just the beginning of the construction academy student’s project.
