The Buddy Walk is an impactful event created to support individuals with Down syndrome. The next Rocket City Buddy Walk will be held on September 27, 2025 at UAH from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There will be free food from Chick Fil A, Papa John’s, Dunkin Donuts, and more.
All are welcome to attend, and organizers are also looking for volunteers to help make the event a success. If you can’t attend, you can always donate to the cause. This year’s event has already raised over $40,000.
Established in 1995 by the NDSS (National Down Syndrome Society), the Buddy Walk promotes acceptance and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. The event takes place each fall, as October is recognized as Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The event is filled with fun activities such as face painting, games, and opportunities to connect with other supporters. The walk itself varies in distance depending on location, but it is typically a short symbolic walk.
Rocket City Buddy Walk event is presented by the organization BUDS (Bringing Up Down Syndrome), Diamond Sponsors, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the Jackson Legal Team and L3 Harris, and the United Way.
