Ah, the Ivy League schools. We’ve all heard of them—Yale, Princeton, Harvard—but some of us can never get our eyes into the life of a student who goes to one of those schools.
But thanks to Bob Jones High School Alumna Emily (Huijia) Wu, we can now catch a glimpse of the life of a Princeton and Harvard student.
Wu graduated from Bob Jones in 2008 with the highest test scores in the high school’s history, according to Sheila Roberts, Bob Jones’ college and career guidance counselor.
“She had perfect scores on both the ACT and SAT,” Roberts stated.
With that achievement under her belt, she then shot for the stars and decided to study economics at Princeton University.
For Wu, Princeton offered her a diverse community of students and a challenging environment.
“Being a college student at Princeton was a very eye-opening four years,” Wu shared.
“The intense atmosphere there allowed me to challenge myself, and in the end the experience felt very rewarding. I would highly recommend others to visit and consider applying to Princeton.”
After graduating from Princeton in 2012 with her undergraduate degree in economics with minors in computer science and finance, she didn’t stop there.
Her next step was to continue in her streak of success by getting her PhD in economics from Harvard University.
Wu explains that the pace and lifestyle of Harvard is quite different from that in Princeton because she’s in graduate school.
“Everyone focuses on his or her own research fields,” Wu states. “Undergrad was for exploring subjects broadly, and graduate school is for digging deeper into something that interests me.”
Bob Jones High School—teachers, students, and even the principal—made quite an impact on her postgraduate decisions from the moment she transferred there as a junior.
“Bob Jones has a plethora of resources for finding good scholarships and researching on a good match for post graduation opportunities. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the friendly peers, wonderful teachers, and invaluable college and career advisors at Bob Jones,” Wu said.
“Go Patriots!”
Bob Jones has sent many students to Ivy League schools—just one form of proof that the school is full of incredibly bright people who are achieving amazing goals.
