There are many species roaming the jungle halls of Bob Jones. Near the top of the food chain are the hall-lurking administrators, hawk-eyed teachers, and ever-imposing seniors.
On the other end of the spectrum and new to the Bob Jones ecosystem are the timid freshmen, who quietly roam the halls. Because they generally stay in their B-wing habitat, they almost seem to pass through the halls unbeknownst to their elder predators.
Under closer examination, we see that the freshman can overcome the awkwardness of teenagerdom and find symbiosis in the ecosystem of Bob Jones. Jasmine Atassi is a particularly spectacular freshman who has accomplished this feat.
Jasmine participates in many school activities. She has been on the math team for four years and has competed in quite a few tournaments, placing in some of them.
“It just goes up and down,” comments Atassi on tournament outcomes.
A long time member, Atassi also competes on a Destination ImagiNation (D.I.) team. She has competed in global competitions many times and has participated in almost every challenge. This year, Atassi and her team are doing challenge C.
“It’s the arts challenge. This year you have to choose a famous piece of art and integrate it into your performance,” explains Atassi.
When she’s not solving complicated math equations or creating comic strips, Atassi can be found getting ready for a competition with the debate team.
“We’ve only had one topic,” says Atassi, “It was about the NSA. It was pretty cool.”
Though the freshmen aren’t always in the spotlight, some still find their way to shine.
“Jazzi? She’s nice, fun, and creative,” comments fellow freshman Katie Bohatch.
