Bob Jones Patriot Players: Auditions Arrive!

Caleb Tollison, Writer

The last line of your monologue leaves your lips, running through the auditorium and the mind of everyone present. In the moments that follow, not a sound is heard, as no one draws breath and no one moves, but everyone’s heart is jumping at your whim. At last, the lights black out, the curtain closes, and the audience erupts with applause.

Do you want to capture the attention of your peers, your family, and your friends? Do you want to leave everyone speechless in their awe? Do you want your viewers to hang on your every word and gesture?

If so, then come on down to the Bob Jones Theatre Department’s drama auditions. Anyone who will be attending Bob Jones next school year is welcome to come.

Maggie Moore, a 3-year drama veteran, says, “I think drama is a great experience to have. It’s fun even though it’s hard, but it also helps you see the world differently.”

When asked who should audition, Sophomore Xander Voigt suggested that “anyone who likes the idea of portraying a character, be it a silly or serious one, or likes the idea of acting in general, should join!”

Bobby Williams claims that drama gives people the opportunity to “learn their comfort zone, then break that comfort zone.”

To audition, you don’t need to have taken any drama classes at all, just memorize and prepare a 1-minute monologue to the drama room, S102, at 4:00 PM on either Tuesday, March 22nd or Thursday, March 24th. You need not attend both days. Again, ANYONE can audition.

Xander Voigt said, “My favorite part of drama is getting together as a class to work plays. You get to bond with your fellow actors through your performances and it’s just a good time all around.

About the drama department, Bobby Williams says, “My favorite part about drama is the community behind the scene. Sure, the acting is excellent, but a lot of the scenes happen offstage, and I as an actor, have been accepted into the family of drama. That’s why I love drama.

Maggie Moore says “the community of people that the cast mentality creates is indescribable until you’ve felt it.”

EVERYONE who auditions is GUARANTEED a spot in a drama class! You will not get turned away! So come on out, portray a character, release your inner actor, and become a Patriot Player!
