The Superintendent Search Nearing Completion…

Trevor Stewart and

Madison residents have been anxiously waiting on news concerning who will be filling the role of Madison City Schools Superintendent. Previously the position was held by Dr. Dee Fowler, who accepted a job as Deputy of State Superintendent for Alabama last fall. While the board has been tirelessly working behind the scenes to find an adequate replacement, Ed Nichols has been serving as the Interim Superintendent (although he is unable to apply for the full-time position due to Madison City policies).

While the board received 40 applications from over 14 states, only 25 were completed by the deadline (December 19th).

During a board meeting on January 12th, the board came up with four very capable candidates. The first is Dr. Reginald Eggleston, who has a military background, and a degree in broadcast journalism in addition to his education experience. The second is Dr. Jennifer Gray, who has been working in Lauderdale County Schools for 26 years. The third candidate is Dr. Sandra Spivey, who is also a candidate for Huntsville City Schools’ Superintendent position. Last but not least is Madison City’s own Robert Parker, who is a former principal of Bob Jones and is currently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Madison City Schools.

Drs. Spivey and Gray will interview for the position on January 17th, while Eggleston and Parker will interview on January 19th. The Board hopes to have made a decision by the first meeting in February.  Regardless of who takes the helm, it is safe to say Madison City Schools will be left in the hands of a captain who’s capable of handling troubled waters.
