Career Expo: A Success

On March 28th, Bob Jones held its first-ever Career Expo in the small gym. Many businesses, offering part-time and long-term jobs, were included in the event. Students were hired for jobs in less than 15 minutes. Booths were set up with free things (including food!) that attracted students to come to their booths. This expo was made for all the students of Bob Jones to explore career and job opportunities. Many teenagers have to do the research all on their own with no help, so this expo was a great opportunity to have jobs explained to students on the spot.

There were over 40 booths present, and there was a lot of variety. Some of the businesses in attendance included YMCA, Terrame, Paul Mitchell The School, Phoenix, Huntsville Hospital, and the Transition Team. All of the businesses are very open to high schoolers. YMCA is hiring teenagers for positions like being a lifeguard and a summer camp counselor. Huntsville Hospital was there for people that are close to graduation and looking more for long-term careers. Paul Mitchell has an open house on April 11, 2023 from 5-7 PM if you are interested in cosmetology. If you’re just looking for a summer job, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice is also hiring 14 and up starting at $8/hour + tips! If you are interested in any of these, you should find their applications and apply.

If you need help getting any jobs, there are businesses that actually help with getting, and keeping, a job. The Transition Team is one of these businesses. They can teach you how to do well in interviews, how to know what you are worth in the job world, and how to make a good impression.

Bob Jones should do another one of these expos in the future as they can be very beneficial for students as they transition from high school to adult life.
