Flag Football is Undefeated

The Flag Football team has been very successful so far. With two games every game night, they have dominated them all. The girls have played Grissom twice, Huntsville twice, and Mae Jemison once, all being shutouts, and Sparkman, which was 12-6 with three overtimes. They are currently undefeated.

Although they’re all very proud, they haven’t taken their wins for granted. They practice as much as possible, including weekends. Both the coaches and girls know what they’re up against and how hard they have to work. Everyone who is a part of the team is very confident in their chance to go to the playoffs, but they have six more games ahead of them, which will all be challenging. They start their games with the mindset of them being 0 to 0. They forget about their wins and don’t let it get to their heads.

I asked one of the girls why they choose that kind of mindset. “It keeps us humble and motivated. If we know we are winning, we tend to start to slack off. We have to have the mentality as if the game and our number of wins and losses are 0-0,” Kalah Christopher said.

The Sparkman game was very challenging. Carly Thomas definitely came through for them. With Carly Thomas scoring a touchdown, it gave the girls 6 points, and the team felt their spirits lift. Overtime came and came and came again. Then, out of nowhere, Bob Jones scored and took home the win.

Tonight they face another school, Lee. With the support from each other and from the school, they’re walking in with their heads held high, hoping to keep their perfect record.
