Spring has Sprung: Outdoor Activities

“Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” – John Muir

The first full day of Spring arrived on March 20th and with it Alabama is being blessed with spurts of glorious weather. People are heading outdoors to enjoy the warm weather before it heats up in the summer months. There are many different activities that Madisonians enjoy. Some of those are hiking, biking, walking, running, gardening, and a popular favorite: Eno-ing. An Eno is a portable hammock that is easily strung up between two trees.

Many people enjoy a selection of activities at the Indian Creek Greenway. It has many trees that are perfect for an Eno, a disc golf course, a playground, eye-catching scenery, and a paved trail that is enjoyed by cyclists and pedestrians alike. Bob Jones’ principal Mrs. Lambert said, “I really enjoy spring – the beautiful weather. I have planted many roses, azaleas, abelias and other colorful flowers this spring. I enjoy cycling on trails and on country roads. I love to go hiking on Monte Sano with my family.”

Another favorite activity of many Bob Jones students is hiking. Senior Lauren Rathbun said, ““I love that there is always something new! You can never hike the exact same trail twice or have the same experience. It never gets boring or mundane, which keeps it fun!”

Many hiking trails are easily accessible in Madison and close by in Huntsville, and many trailheads include multiple levels to appeal to both the experienced hikers and the beginners.

English teacher Mrs. Powell enjoys the arrival of spring, and said, “I love being able to go camping and  canoeing with my family. Being outside slows things down for me and allows for time to focus on what really counts, relationships with those closest to me.”
