Did you guys know that June 6, 2019 is the 75th anniversary of D-day? Of course, you don’t want to waste this special day by doing nothing. If you don’t know what D- Day is and want to know more about D-day, you are welcome to join England and France Trip and create memories with your teachers and friends.

Bob Jones High school is planning a 10-day trip to England and France. During this once-in-a-lifetime event, students will gain a new perspective on history and their place in it as they connect with community members, participate in ceremonies, and rediscover a significant moment that helped shape history.

According to Educational Tour, D-Day is described as follows: “On June 6, 1944, American, Canadian, and British forces made history as 156,000 soldiers landed on the heavily-fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. This was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history, and marks the beginning of the Allied invasion of Western Europe.”

A survey of Bob Jones students revealed that the number one country that Bob Jones students liked to travel to was  England, followed by France, and then Germany.

Jacqui Dub, a freshman at Bob Jones High school said, “ I liked the food in England, and they have pretty interesting things to see, such as the castle, the guards, and the bridges. France was a crowded place, and the Eiffel Tower is an amazing sight to see especially from the top. The Louvre is spectacular, even if you are not into art. It’s neat to see what was created back in the day. When you go, you have to be careful of the people because they might take stuff from you. However, it is nice, the food is good, and an amazing experience.”

Mrs. Faris, the AP US History and AP Human Geography teacher, said, “The best way to become a “knower” of the world is to experience it! We can be internet travelers all day long, but until we actively explore we cannot begin to understand or appreciate the wonders of this world and the people we share it with. Break out of your comfort zone and explore!”

“This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity! We are going to visit England and France, but also be present for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy. Students sometimes worry that their parents will say no to a trip like this because of the costs (which it is actually an awesome value) but parents are more likely to say ‘Yes’ to a worthwhile experience versus general purchases,” said Leah Faris.
