Earlier in the school year, the Bob Jones’ Theatre Department won the hearts of many through a breathtaking performance of their competition show The Standard Deviation. This Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., the department will be putting on yet another phenomenal performance, Pinckley’s Museum of Bridal Oddities.

In contrast with The Standard Deviation, which was a heavy drama, this show emerges as a light-hearted comedy, centereing around two sisters and their younger brother in a small Mississippi town. Conflict arises within the town when the younger sister becomes engaged before her sister, bringing with it a plethora of Southern stereotypes. Senior actor Chance Novalis calls Pinckley’s  is “an absolutely hilarious play with characters that everyone will enjoy.” Sophomore Basia Marotta feels it is the “exaggerated nature” of the characters that will bring the comical nature needed to appeal to a wide range of audience members

Mary Davis, a drama instructor, echoes this thought: “I think that there’s going to be someone in the play that everyone recognizes as a member of their own family, especially if they’re from the South. Every Southern stereotype is represented; from the dumb redneck hicks to the senile granny that is frisky, and from the sweet and innocent Southern girl to the one that has the biting edge, but bless their hearts. I think everyone is going to recognize the humor in it because we have all seen it in real life, that’s what makes it funny.”

With the cast “coming together as one big team”, as senior actress Kayla Peel describes, the end result brings “well-developed fun characters” that will draw in the audience in.

As a senior, actor Zane Burns feels confident that Pinckley’s is a good show to go out on. In addition to fabulous character and plot development, he feels there is one more aspect that will linger in the audience member’s mind long after the performance finishes. When asked what he finds the most memorable, Burns responds: “To be honest, Chance’s shorts. Those are, those are some short shorts.”

Ticket admission to Pinckley’s is $5.00 and will be available for purchase at the door.
