Just because someone has a large amount of money, it does not mean that they should be politicians. For some reason, a craze has appeared and it’s celebrities as president. Maybe it began with Ronald Reagan, but at least Reagan started with smaller public offices and worked his way up to presidency. In 2015, Kanye West announced his possible run for the presidency in 2020. For some odd reason, people were excited? Some Americans automatically assume that just because a person is famous and has a high net worth, that they handle money well. This is not true. A major argument for people who voted for Trump was since he is a “good” businessman then obviously he would be able to run our country like one… “We should’ve stopped before Trump,” said senior Will Spiegel.

Despite what Trump has “proven,” a person does need to have actual political experience to run for any political position. When asked if celebrities should be allowed to run for president, senior George Graves said: “I think everyone should have a fair opportunity to be president regardless of experience because there are already so many requirements and having political experience should not be added to the list.”

Allowing people with no political experience to handle political things is just the same as getting someone who has only seen someone do taxes do yours. The Huffington Post couldn’t have said it any better,“just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should [and] just because you’re better than the last terrible employee doesn’t mean you’re the right person for the job.”

During the Golden Globes on January 7th, Oprah Winfrey gave a heartwarming acceptance speech which led many to believe that she was considering presidency, this was soon shot down by her in an interview with InStyle. Although it was only 2 weeks with the rumor of her presidency spreading around, mugs and t-shirts had already been developed campaigning on her behalf. This just goes to show that some Americans choose candidates based on popularity, rather than actual experience. Fingers crossed that President Trump will be the last politically inexperienced President that we have.
